Opportunities for Outreach

Outreach

Grant, O God, that we may follow the example of thy faithful servant Barnabas who, seeking not his own renown but the well-being of your church, gave generously of his life and substance for the relief of the poor and the spread of the Gospel.                            …..Collect for St. Barnabas Day, June 11 Book of Common Prayer

The Outreach program at St. Barnabas is simply love in action, arising from the example of Jesus’ own life and of his death.

Our Outreach program is very strong and there are opportunities all year for participation.  There are some core programs  that are done to annually such as providing Falling Creek Middle School with school supplies in the fall and gift cards at Christmas; providing Christmas gifts for the residents of St. Barnabas House, collection of Campbell Soup Labels for Boys Home, Covington, collecting stuffed animals for the Manchester Volunteer Rescue Squad, and caring for our ‘live’ four-legged friends through donations of pet supplies to the county SPCA.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

This is a very prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace.  Shawls may be given for almost any reason, but usually for someone facing surgery, a bereavement, a birthing or a marriage.  When the shawl is completed it is blessed by the rector and presented to the recipient with a card.  Beginners as well as experienced knitters and crocheters are welcome.  Help is available if needed.

Pastoral Care

This ministry  concentrates on providing for the needs of our shut ins in areas such as providing gifts as appropriate, delivering the altar flowers, sending notes to shut ins, and providing food to families in crisis.

Buildings and Grounds/Memorial Gardens

If you are an "outdoors/handy with tools-type", there are several opportunities to hone your skills in caring for  Memorial Garden and building maintenance.
